Reupholstering a Brazilian Sofa
Lucky us! We had the opportunity to do a full leather reupholstery job on this incredible, Brazilian-esque three-seater lounge sofa. It was a pleasure to take this piece from its original worn vinyl to this stunning leather with a 1970s vintage vibe.
We first removed the the cushions from the wooden frame and prepared the original, worn vinyl for removal. The padding was then inspected and repairs were made to ensure just the right look and feel for the intended use. This is particularly important on this specific piece since the the Brazilian-style sofa cushions are intended to flex over the frame itself, the very feature which gives it that awesome lounge look.
Our seamstress, Becca, who has been in the business for more than twenty-five years, took careful measurements of the cushions and frame, checking them against the original pattern for the vinyl covering. This pattern was used to recreate identical coverings in this fantastic light tan leather that was selected by our discerning client. The best part of this piece is the slight ruching of the leather upholstery that accents the corners of each cushion and allows for the soft curvature of the armrests around the wooden frame. After sewing on the matching leather buttons and giving the wood frame a bit of a restoration to bring out that warm glow, our team revealed the final product. And what a beauty it is!
