Chesterfield sofa restoration

The tufted chesterfield sofa is an iconic piece of furniture that has become a staple in interior design. It is known for its deep button tufting, rolled arms, and low back. But where did this sofa style come from, and what is the process for creating one?

The origins of the tufted chesterfield sofa can be traced back to 18th-century England. It is said that the fourth Earl of Chesterfield, Philip Dormer Stanhope, commissioned a sofa that would allow him to sit comfortably without wrinkling his clothing. The result was a low, tufted sofa with rolled arms and a deep buttoned back. The style became popular among the upper classes and was often used in gentlemen's clubs.

This sofa in particular was extremely sun faded and dry when it came into our Houston leather repair shop. Our team expertly re-oiled the leather, improving the overall softness and flexibility of the leather. We were able to find parts of the sofa that best represented the original color and complete a custom color match within 90-95% of the original color. Our new color was then applied utilizing spray guns, once the leather was buffed, sealed and primed. We also applied a medium gloss clear protective top coat to lock in the color.
